Owned by Crow Curlys Germany, this 1994 stallion (gelded in 2004) is a true
shiny black. He has a crushed velvet coat year round, clothing his classic
smooth conformation. He has excellent bone, straight legs on four corners,
a beautiful head, a long hip, and excellent muscling. At 14.1 hh, he is a
fancy, smaller type stallion. The size of his foals however is largely determined
by their dam. He has nice movement, and has a certain presence that is difficult
to capture in a photograph; both of which he transmits to many of his babies.
Most of his foals develop his style, presence and calm nature. *Velvet is
not a homozygous curl producer, but he gave it a close run. In 1999 he sired
10 curly out of 11 foals; in 2000 he produced 7 curly out of 8 foals; and
in 2001 he produced 5 curly out of 5 foals. The majority of the mares he
has run with have been straight or smooth coated curly mares. This puts him
at a +91% curly producer.
